Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: 19 July 2026

1. Scope and privacy contact

This Privacy Policy explains how the operator of weathera.co, using the Weathera name (“Weathera”, “we”, “us” or “our”), processes personal information when you visit or contact us.

For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact info@weathera.co. This policy applies only to Weathera and not to external websites linked from the Service.

Privacy at a glance

  • There are currently no visitor accounts, advertising trackers or Google Analytics on the website.
  • We use an IP address to estimate a city and show a relevant forecast.
  • We store daily, pseudonymous country-and-city traffic counts to understand use of the Service.
  • We do not ask visitors to submit medical records or symptom diaries.
  • Wellbeing information is generated for a city, place and time, not from a personal health profile.
  • We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

2. Information we process

Request and device information

When you request a page, our systems and hosting provider may process your IP address, request date and time, requested URL, browser or user-agent information, preferred language, response status and related security or diagnostic data. This information is inherent in delivering an internet service.

Approximate location

We use the requesting IP address with a server-side GeoLite2 database to estimate an approximate city, country, time zone and coordinates. This helps us display a nearby supported city and a locally relevant forecast. IP geolocation is approximate and may be wrong.

Approximate location is used to choose place-based content. It is not combined with medical information and is not used to create an individual health or symptom prediction.

Pseudonymous daily analytics

For non-bot visits, we create a one-way daily visitor value from the date, IP address, browser information and preferred language. The value changes each day and is used to estimate daily unique visitors by country and city. Our custom analytics record stores this value and the approximate country and city, but not the raw IP address. We also store aggregate daily page-view and unique-visitor counts.

Messages you send us

If you email us, we process your email address, message, attachments and related correspondence so that we can respond, keep appropriate records and protect our legal interests. Please do not send medical records or other sensitive information that is not necessary for your request.

Local browser storage

Weathera stores a small functional value named weatheraThemePart in your browser’s local storage so the visual time-of-day theme remains consistent. You can remove it using your browser settings. We do not currently set advertising or analytics cookies.

3. Why we process information and our legal bases

  • Provide a place-relevant Service: to deliver pages, estimate a relevant city, obtain weather data and remember the visual theme. We rely on performing the service you request and our legitimate interest in providing a useful, functional website.
  • Operate, secure and troubleshoot: to prevent abuse, diagnose failures, maintain availability and protect users and infrastructure. We rely on our legitimate interests and, where relevant, legal obligations.
  • Measure use: to count daily visits by broad location, plan capacity and improve coverage. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the Service while reducing identification through daily pseudonymous values.
  • Communicate: to answer messages and manage complaints or legal requests. We rely on your request, our legitimate interests and applicable legal obligations.
  • Comply with law and establish legal claims: where processing is necessary to meet a legal obligation or protect legal rights.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider the nature of the information, the limited purpose and reasonable visitor expectations. You may object as described below.

4. Service providers and disclosures

We disclose information only as needed for the purposes described above:

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud: hosting, serverless computing, database storage, security and operational logging. Google generally acts as a processor for Firebase customer data.
  • Google Weather and Google Air Quality: geographic coordinates for the requested or supported forecast area are sent to obtain forecast, historical and air-quality data.
  • Email provider: messages sent to info@weathera.co are processed by the provider that hosts our mailbox.
  • Professional advisers and authorities: when reasonably necessary for legal advice, compliance, safety, fraud prevention or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

The GeoLite2 lookup used for approximate location runs from a local database on our server; the lookup does not require sending your IP address to MaxMind.

Google services are subject to the Google Maps Platform Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.

5. International processing

Our cloud functions operate in the United States, and Google or other providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Privacy laws there may differ from those in your country. Where required, transfers are supported by recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. See Firebase privacy and security information for details about Firebase processing and transfer safeguards.

6. Retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was processed, including security, operational, accounting and legal needs. Retention depends on the type of record:

  • custom analytics are organised by day; pseudonymous visitor values are used for daily deduplication, while aggregate trends may be kept longer for capacity and coverage planning;
  • infrastructure and security logs are retained according to configured operational needs and provider settings;
  • email correspondence is kept while needed to answer the request and afterwards where reasonably necessary for records, disputes or legal obligations;
  • the theme preference stays in your browser until you clear local storage.

We may retain information longer where required by law or needed for an active legal claim, and may retain non-identifying aggregate information.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect information, including HTTPS in transit, restricted administrative access and managed cloud security controls. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, and we cannot promise that unauthorised access, loss or misuse will never occur.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion or a copy of personal information; restrict or object to processing; withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and complain to a competent data-protection authority. You may also have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising applicable privacy rights.

Email info@weathera.co to make a request. Tell us what right you wish to exercise and provide enough information to locate relevant records. We may need to verify your identity. Because Weathera has no visitor accounts and the daily analytics value is pseudonymous, we may not be able to connect a record to you without additional technical details. We will explain if a request cannot be fulfilled.

9. No sale, targeted advertising or automated individual decisions

We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising or use it to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about an individual. Weather sensitivity content is generated for a city and date; it is not based on a personal medical profile.

10. Children

The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly request personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

11. External links

The Service links to medical, scientific and other external resources. Their operators determine their own privacy practices. Review an external site’s privacy notice before providing information to it.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy when the Service, providers or legal requirements change. We will post the updated version here and revise the date above. Material changes may also be highlighted on the Service where appropriate.

13. Contact and complaints

For questions, requests or complaints about privacy, contact info@weathera.co. You may also lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority for the country or region where you live or work, or where you believe a violation occurred.
